about us

St. Bartholomew's School was founded in 1466 and is proud of its ancient tradition. It is now an 11-18 Comprehensive School of 1630 students with a Sixth Form of 350 serving Newbury, a wide area of West Berkshire and the Hampshire/Wiltshire borders. The School is academically successful. Each year there will be 10+ Oxbridge candidates with many obtaining places.

Since September 2002 the school was designated a Business & Enterprise College, by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust. This has been a central contribution to the school's development and creativity.

The School is housed on two attractive sites which are only approximately 200 metres apart on the south side of Newbury.

Years 7-11 are based mainly at Luker, (the former site of the Newbury County Girls' Grammar School), and the Sixth Form mainly at Wormestall (previously the site of the Boys' Grammar School). There is excellent teaching accommodation, a 25m indoor heated swimming pool and extensive playing fields.

Out of classroom activities at St. Bartholomew's are many and varied, and are regarded as central to the pupils' education. They offer pupils considerable opportunity for learning and enjoyment. Many competitions and activities are House based, and the School enjoys a thriving life of Music and Drama. Sporting traditions are very strong in the School with excellent facilities, an exceptional range of teams and a strong fixture list.

Newbury is a market town which has grown considerably in recent years. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and housing, though relatively expensive, is plentiful. The School is well regarded locally, and has strong links with the community and the Old Newburian Association.

If you would like further information about the school or would like to apply for a place at St.Bart's, please contact the school on 01635 521 255.
